- MOVIE ADDICT -

It has been a while, isn't it? Not that I don't have things to write, I have plenty but the time is just..limited.

I took a day off, just because I need some time off. So I went to watch a few movies, back to back.

My first thought when I found out characters in the animated comedy Despicable Me were voiced by Steve Carell, Jason Segel and Russell Brand was a wish for it to suddenly turn into a live-action comedy directed by Judd Apatow.

The film revolves around Gru, a supervillain whose personality is as ugly as his physical features. But this is an animated family film, after all, so by villain, I really mean a grumpy guy who lives alone and steals things like the Times Square JumboTron and has a fur panda-bear rug. After a new, nerdy, jumpsuit-clad rival named Vector steals the Great Pyramid of Giza, Gru decides he must outdo the world’s biggest heist by stealing the moon.

Even in the shadow of Toy Story 3, Despicable Me is refreshing, because it has what so many live-action Hollywood films have lacked this year: great storytelling and originality, and I want one of the Minions..maybe two. =)

Dad loves to talk about the Russian spies and whatnot when I was younger. Well, I thought Dad was just telling 'stories' but went I read about Salt, everything that Dad told, might be true.

Between improvised rocket launchers, highway chases that include several truck jumps, secret identities, and a very high body count, this is a movie that will have you highly entertained throughout the whole film.

Angelina Jolie stars as the highly trained CIA agent, Evelyn Salt, a character who takes advantage of every opportunity to showcase the unbelievably awesome skills that you would expect such a character to possess. However, it’s not just the awesomeness of Evelyn Salt that makes this movie entertaining; it’s a combination of the action and the elaborate and twisting plot—that keeps you guessing until the very end— that will have audiences coming out.

The movie really gets going early on when Salt flees a CIA building after a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy with a plot to assassinate the Russian president. The line between friend and foe is blurred early on and the true identity of Salt becomes the unanswered question that keeps the story moving.

This is the kind of movie that sucks you in and keeps you wondering how it’s all going to come together at the end and you’ve got to take it for what it is—a great action movie.

Nadz been bugging me for a few days, after she watched Inception. Every morning she would call me up and went "Please tengok Inception! Please tengok Inception!"

So I did.

Is it the best movie in the history of movies? I don't think so.

Is it the smartest wide release movie you're likely to see this year? Well, got to admit. Yes.

This psychological sci-fi action film about a thief who possesses the power to enter into the dreams of others. Dom Cobb doesn't steal things, he steals ideas. By projecting himself deep into the subconscious of his targets, he can glean information that even the best computer hackers can't get to. In the world of corporate espionage, Cobb is the ultimate weapon. But even weapons have their weakness, and when Cobb loses everything, he's forced to embark on one final mission in a desperate quest for redemption. This time, Cobb won't be harvesting an idea, but sowing one. Should he and his team of specialists succeed, they will have discovered a new frontier in the art of psychic espionage.

It will confuse some people. When I say some people, I meant people like me. When I say people like me, I meant people with limited focus. But whatever it is, Inception equals to G.E.N.I.U.S.

- PICNIC -

Durian
all the way from Taiping.

After having a 'light' dinner at our Mabis, as promised by Natta & Qaf, they brought us some durian. But being Natta, she was quite worried that the smell would disturbed or 'attract' the other customers at Mabis, we decided to have our dessert at elsewhere.

The plan was to buka bonet kereta and mencangkung ditepi jalan. Pergh.

But we decided to sit under a big tree on the playground, beralaskan surat khabar (terima kasih Cops!), with a big tupperware of sweet-yellow durian. It felt like heaven in the mouth when we first tasted it. Sweet but not too sweet, berlemak, we were on cloud 9 (Nanayau, running on the clouds, in slowmo..hmm?) We had our typical conversation but with the durians in the picture, it was a perfect experience. After a few dosage of those freaking durians, we were high. Dem.

Picnic under the stars (and being high?). Just like what Nadiah always wanted.

Thanks Natta & Qaf for the stock.

- ECLIPSE -

It all begins..with a choice.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipses definitely the best film so far in the Twilight franchise, if compared to New Moon, and for several reasons. Eclipse is a masterpiece when considered from the point of view of a series fan. changes in the story, but the fans are mostly very happy about the way the film turned out. Newcomers to the series won’t be too disappointed by the film, either. Eclipse definitely can stand on its own with other films in spite of the fact that it is a Twilight movie. It offers romance, action, drama and comedy all rolled into one sparkly package.

There were several subtle improvement to the details set out in the previous films. For one, the "vampire sparkle" was less fake and tacky than before. In Eclipse, the sparkle effect on Edward's skin was more akin to the light refraction one might see on a piece of marble, which is how the author described it in the book. Also, the pale vampire makeup was a lot less caked on than it was in the past films, so it was more believable that these vamps could blend into society.

There were times I found myself rolled
my eyes with some of the cheesy lines, and unnecessary shirtless or kissing scenes. The Bella Swan that we knew on the first movie; tough chick, girl-next-door..now has turned into the book-Bella. I would have loved it more if they had spent a little more time on the battle scenes, though. After enticing us with the trailer that focused on the match between the Cullen clan and the wolf pack against the new batch of newborn vampires, I was expecting at least a 10-minute battle. I wanted to see the wolves tear apart a few bloodsuckers; I was hoping to see the Cullens in action- basically I was looking forward to a blood batch but alas that was not to be.

One thing I learned after watching Eclipse.

Never. Watch. This. Movie. With. Nanayau and Copot.

There were non-stop comments on Edward (dudes, never criticized about MY Edward!), remarks that just wanna make you laugh and smack them at the same time, it was such a torture. Hahah..

Whatever it is, I believe that as long as you're entertained for those two hours, the movie is good and this movie is not that
bad. I went to watch it again the next day with my teenage niece, Erin. I promised to bring her to watch all Twilight movies. Cool Aunt, aren't I? Heheh.

Gosh
. Edward is THE perfect gentleman. I don't care if he's a vampire coz dude, you can suck my blood anytime. =P

Btw, today Faha is a wife.

CONGRATULATIONS TO FAHA & SHAHIR!

- RANDOM -

Out of the blue, I was having a very tough time to swallow.

My throat was extremely red, I almost cried even just to take a drink. I was freaking hot (tell me something I don't know..HAHA! Fine, lame.) I didn't take solid food the whole Saturday. It was such a torture.

I was freaking hot (as in the temperature) right after meeting Mom at Abang's place. I went to see the doctor and yup, too hot to handle. Jabbed and got myself some antibiotics. I 'quarantined' myself the whole weekend and didn't go for Carl's reception Saturday night and escaped swimming with Nadz. Sorry people.

So I stayed home and entertained myself with the Vampire Diaries Season 1 marathon. I didn't know that this series is originally from a book series.

Briefly, "The Vampire Diaries" centers on Elena, a 17-year-old high school student who was recently orphaned. Returning to school and trying to get back to having a life, she meets new boy in town Stefan Salvatore and flirting ensues. Of course, matters are complicated since a) he's a vampire, b) she looks just like his old love from 1864, Katherine, and c) his bad-boy, also-a-vampire brother Damon Salvatore has decided to make an appearance after a 15-year absence and it's hardly what one would call a joyous family reunion.

Being vampires, Stefan and Damon of course have some special powers. For starters, turning into crows and being able to conjure up a creepy ground-covering fog. As for that pesky daylight thing, it's no problem as long as they wear a magic ring.

Unlike "Twilight's" heroine Bella, Elena is not a blank canvas that imaginative young girls can project themselves onto. While the first episode doesn't imbue her with a full-fledged personality there's enough to hint that we'll be shown one later on. And at least she has the recently dead parents to fall back on if she comes across like a bit of a downer at times.

Stefan has played his share of supernatural entities; moody and broody enough to fall into the category of mysterious high-school loner/vampire, he also appears to have finally grown into what has always been a very rectangular shaped noggin. Still, should anyone be in need of a teen Frankenstein, he's your boy.

Damon doesn't show up until the last 10 minutes of the first episode, but he immediately adds to the proceedings. Oozing malevolence from his first smirk, we're completely on board to see what kind of hurt he stirs up. While we're sure the upcoming live triangle between the two brothers and Elena, you can be forgiven if you're already rooting for the darker of the two to win.

CheMek: I lurveeee Damon.
MekLoja: Really? I suke Stefan.
CheMek: Ye? Stefan mcm nak tiru Edward. Mane boleh lawan bang?! But Edward is the ultimate.
MekLoja: Of coz not! No one can compete with Edward, that's for sure! *mata bersinar*
Tiyih: *rolled eyes*

Nanayau, this is Damon Salvatore. Not Damon WHO?

To think about it, I used to hate vampires; they're scary, they drink blood to live, they're quite fascinating and they can be really seductive. But when it comes to the modern-days vampires, they are getting hotter, aren't they?

If I were a vampire, I'd be a very lame one..for some reasons. One, I don't know how to seduce/flirt with people therefore, I'd be starve to death. Second, I can't even look into someone's eyes for a long time nevertheless to compel them because I'd be laughing my head's off. My focus is very limited. Lastly, I'm just scared of blood. I'd fainted before I could even drink a drop. Haha.
